5 Things Your Tattoo Artist Wishes You Knew

Learn how to be an ideal client with our guide to 5 things your tattoo artist wishes you knew…

1. We’re artists, not mind-readers. For our friends out there still walking into the shop all “What do I get?” We see you. This one is for you baby. If you’re looking for a custom piece please oh please have an idea of what you want, accompanied by at least one reference. If you chose a professional and reputable tattoo studio chances are we are too occupied with serious clients (who already know what they want) to pull that vision you see “in your head” out onto paper. Help us out, and do a little homework. Artists typically respond best to visual. The faster we’re given that visual idea, the faster we’re all on the same page, the faster we can get you that drawing!

2. Be prepared to wait. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched a client flip out over a 2 hour wait at a walk-in shop. Patience is virtue. The tattoo industry is currently booming, and we all now have easy access to artists digital portfolio’s via Instagram. If you want a bad-ass piece by an in-demand tattooer, the chances of you popping in on your own time and being ushered into the chair immediately are pretty slim. Come with a book, or at the very least your phone charger, because you might be here for a while.

3. Take your restroom break before your session. Self explanatory.

4. Time-constraints work in no ones favor. If you’ve got more important places to be, or drinks with the bro’s in

5. We really hate haggling. Haggling is awkward. The same way you wouldn’t bargain for a sweet deal to have your appendix taken out, you shouldn’t bargain for tattoos. Tattoos are a luxury item. Be forthcoming about your budget from the beginning, so we can figure out how to accommodate you.

6 Inspiring Dog Tattoo Ideas

A dog isn’t just a pet. They don’t care about your career choices, your wealth or your flaws, a dog will love you no questions asked.
It’s no surprise that for dog owners losing their dog is just as bad as losing a human friend. To honor their best friend these people chose to ink their skins with their dog’s portrait.

10 Amazing Science Tattoos To Nerd-Out On

So here we are with 10 Amazing Science Tattoo Designs that will interest out and take us all back to that dreaded chemistry class in high school, or molecule structures—whatever you want to call them. The reason? They are far and away the most popular science-themed tattoo we came across. We’d say the ratio is somewhere in the ballpark of 9:1. While those super sciency looking molecule tattoos are pretty neat, there’s also a healthy amount of other creative science related tattoos on the list.
So if you’re a self-proclaimed super nerd, a gigantic fan of The Big Bang Theory, or likely both, you definitely came to the right place.

This Hubble Space Telescope tattoo.

This detail driven piece has a lot of interesting things going on. While the Hubble Telescope orbits in space, its monochromatic nature doesn’t take anything away from the awe-inspiring color and majesty of the earth and those beautiful pinks and purples that illustrate the cosmic section of the piece. Despite the wondrous color of this design, the Hubble Space Telescope only takes photos in black and white, the color seen in the photos is actually added later.

This watercolor ankle piece.

No matter how many different watercolor tattoos we come across, and trust us, it’s a lot, we always instantly recognize Simona’s work for its distinctive style and realistic brush strokes. This design features the serotonin and dopamine structures along with one of Simona’s signature hearts.

This watercolor double helix.

It’s tough to avoid watercolor work these days. It seems wherever you turn, the watercolor technique is being leveraged to the fullest to compliment basic shapes and designs which, don’t get us wrong, isn’t a bad thing it’s just that it can feel a bit over used at times. This double helix is a great example of how watercolor work can spice up a simple black ink shape or design

This dotwork forearm piece.

Here we have a rocket ship making its way from earth to space. Separate designs all tied together are a really popular trend right now. We haven’t featured much of Niko’s work on TB before but his Instagram is definitely worth checking out. His black and grey ink realistic works are our favorite.

This Aspirin molecule.

The rib cage is one of our favorite tattoo locales. If you have a high threshold for pain, the rib cage offers an excellent opportunity for anyone looking for a large canvas and a unique location for their design.

This abstract watercolor DNA tattoo.

Thick watercolor brush strokes define this wonderful display of color. For the casual onlooker, this design it pretty much whatever you see. Only when you’re told exactly what it is does the double helix start to emerge.

This watercolor skeleton formula.

This evolution tattoo.

This glassware tattoo.

This dotwork atom.

French artist JL Gonzal worked his magic and gave Tenet the coolest prosthetic arm. The hand gives Tenet all the mobility he needs to work
his charm on his clients and ink them.

Story behind The Semicolon Tattoo

behindsemicolon

Getting something inked on your body which will last forever ain’t easy. Now, tattoos might mean different things to different people, but every tattoo
has a significant story.

Like the semicolon tattoo, with the only difference being that its meaning is universal.

You’ve probably come across a lot of people sporting it, and the story behind each of these people is a truly inspiring tale of fight and survival.

As a movement, it stands for all those who suffer from anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, self-harm and other mental health problems. The tattoo is to honor those who are going through it everyday, managing to survive every single day.

The semicolon as a character represents a pause. As the founder of Project Semicolon says,

“A semicolon is used when an author could’ve chosen to end their sentence, but chose not to. The author is you and the sentence is your life.”

The movement that started in 2013 had one simple idea: post photos of a semicolon drawn with markers. However, people decided to make it more permanent. The movement is now famous all over the world because of the simple sentiment: You survived.
